Melbourne bot. & zool. Garden,
27. Apr. 1860.
Sir.
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter, dated 24. Apr., intimating
the shipment of 30,000 Salmon ova via Melbourne from Liverpool to Hobarton, and requesting
such aid, as I may aford on this place, in facilitating the transhipment of this valuable
importation from Victoria to Tasmania.
In reply, Sir, I assure you, that I feel particularly honored by the mark of confidence,
evinced towards me by the Tasmanian Government, in entrusting me with such a duty,
which I shall feel a particular pleasure in fulfilling to the utmost of my ability;
and I beg of you to command at all times my humble services, when required, and particularly
so when thereby, as in this instance, the interest of a whole community may be advanced.
It is delightful to contemplate the likelihood, of seeing the careful labours and
judicious arrangements of the Royal Society of Tasmania, in endeavouring to enrich
the waters of your islands with the salmon, brought to a successful issue, and to
observe with how generous a share of support and interest your Government was pleased
to foster so philanthropic an undertaking.
I have the honor to be, Sir,
your most obedient & humblest servant
Ferd. Mueller.
