I am directed by the Governor to forward to you the enclosed documents,

On 28 March 1859, the Director and Librarian of the Society of Arts and Sciences, Batavia, Mr Munnich, wrote to the British Consul in Batavia, A. Fraser, soliciting his assistance in establishing friendly intercourse between the Society of Arts and Sciences and scientific institutions in the Cape of Good Hope and Australia. Fraser forwarded a copy of Munnich's letter to the Governor of Victoria, H. Barkly, on 13 June 1859. See Transactions of the Philosophical Institute of Victoria , vol. 4 (1860), pp. xxv-xxvi.
