Letter not found. The text given here is from the minutes of the Belfast (later Port Fairy) Municipal Council meeting held on 25 May 1859. The item is dated to May as the latest date it could have been written to have been read at this meeting.
Samuel Merrick, the Council's Melbourne agent, wrote to the Council on 28 June 1859 advising that he had forwarded three bundles of plants and one bundle of willow cuttings that he had received from M (Minute book 2; Belfast gazette, 8 July 1859, p. 2; Banner of Belfast, 9 July 1859, p. 3).
