[A communication, dated 17 April 1859, from Dr Ferdinand Mueller the current President
of the Philosophical Institute of Victoria in Melbourne, to the Director to notify
him of his election as honorary member of the Institute.
This letter reflects a veritable oasis of mental quietude and lively progress. A
report from the Melbourne Herald on the annual banquet of the Philosophical Institute of Victoria is also enclosed.]

Haidinger was unanimously elected an honorary member of the Philosophical Institute
of Victoria at an ordinary meeting held on 20 April 1859, after being proposed by
M and seconded by William Wilson. See Transactions of the Philosophical Institute of Victoria

M as the newly elected President of the Institute presided over its annual dinner
