Annotated: 'See Docket CLI 841/1858', a reference to a letter from Hergott to the
Crown Lands Commissioner concerning the specimens he had collected during Babbage's
expedition.
19 January 1859
My dear Dr Müller
By the Havilah which sails today, I have forwarded to your adress, a box containing
the dried specimens of plants collected by Herrgot
who was out with Mr Babbages party —
2
David Herrgott.
I would have answered the letter you wrote to me about them, before now, had I not
been under the impression that you had left Melbourne on your tour to the Snowy Mountains;
by a Telegram that Sir Richard MacDonnell received yesterday from Sir Henry Barclays
private Secretary, I learnt that you were still in Melbourrne, and desirous of having
the plants at once. I lost but no time in at once sending them to you by first Steamer.
3
Sir Henry Barkly's?
At your convenience to be sure I shall be glad to hear from you if there is anything
new amongst the collection.
4
For M's description of the plants, see B59.03.01.
Believe me
yours faithfully
F S Dutton Commr of Crown Lands
