Melbourne bot. & zoolog. Garden,
1. Dec. 1858.
Sir,
Much difficulty being experienced as well as loss of time, to keep the cattle from
the Yarra banks and thereby from crossing occasionally the footbridge into the botanical
Garden, I have the honor to solicit, that you will be pleased to sanction the erection
of two short fences across the Yarra-banks from the west corner of the zoolog. Garden
to the River and from the fence of the bridge to the Richmond Park's fence.
The estimate for these two pieces of fencing is £9.10/ and £12.10/, including carriage
gates and turnstiles.
I may mention, that no objection could be raised in keeping the gates of the proposed
cross-fences closed, as no carriage can pass conveniently pass along the Yarra-bank
until the road is formed, nor is hardly ever any rider passing in that direction.
I have the honor to be your very humble
Ferd. Mueller
F. Powlett Esq. &c &c &c
Commiss. of Crown Lands.
