Melbourne bot. & zool. Garden,
1. Dec. 1858.
Sir
I have the honor to report, that repeatedly the pailings from the enclosures around
the Blue Gum-trees have been broken away near the military Barracks, and that I have
been obliged to suppy 42 from our store to effect the repair. For an occasional restoration
of these I should feel obliged.
It appears, that the children of the soldiers are removing the pailings for fire wood,
and I have throught it my duty to bring this matter under the consideration of the
Commander of the 40 Regiment
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your most obedient servant
Ferd. Mueller
F. Powlett Esq, &c &c &c
Commissioner of Crown-lands.

On 2 December 1858 Powlett minuted an instruction to N. Bickford, Head Ranger, to
attend to the matter.
