By desire of the Chief Secretary I have the honor to acknowledge the rect of yr Le
of 3d November reportg that many plants have been stolen from the Botanic Garden
& have to inform you that instructions have been given for a reward to be offered
for information which may lead to the conviction of the offenders. Placards will be
printed & forwarded to you to be posted up in the Garden throughout the locality in
its neighbourhood. The acting Chief Commissioner of Police considers that a constable
in plain clothes might occasionally be of service in the Garden & I am therefore to
request that you will consult with Superintendt Dana as regards the time when a constable
might be most advantageously employed in this way.
