of the Philosophical Institute, 17 November 1858, called to consider the plans submitted

The meeting adjourned without deciding on a preferred set of plans. At the continuation
of the meeting the next day, when M again did not attend, the members present selected
a different design from the one favoured by M and Wilkie. However, the Council subsequently
lost confidence in the architect selected and instead chose Joseph Reed for the job.
