Letter not found. Item is part of the minutes of a special meeting of the Council of the Philosophical Institute, 17 November 1858, called to consider the plans submitted by various architects for the Institute’s proposed hall.
[A letter was read from Dr Fd Mueller, who was unavoidably absent, strongly recommending the plan marked 2 deltas in a circle. The note was countersigned by Dr Wilkie in favor of the same plan.]

The meeting adjourned without deciding on a preferred set of plans. At the continuation of the meeting the next day, when M again did not attend, the members present selected a different design from the one favoured by M and Wilkie. However, the Council subsequently lost confidence in the architect selected and instead chose Joseph Reed for the job.
