MS written by Carl Wilhelmi and signed by M.
Melbourne botanical Garden,
24 September 1858.
Sir
I have the honor to inform you, that it will henceforth not be desirable to accept again horses for grazing into the botanic Gardens reserve, since it will be necessary to retain this ground for a portion of the animals belonging to the zoological Gardens.
Under these circumstances no horses have been grazing since July in the reserve and as this formed the only source of revenue, the collecting has ceased since that period at this establishment.
I have the honor to be
Sir
your most obedient and humble servant
Ferd. Mueller
Mr Undersecretary Moore
