Melbourne bot. Garden,
6. Aug. 1858.
Sir
I have the honor to inform you, that at a meeting of the committee appointed for the administration of the zoological gardens all the contingent expenses of the defunct zoological Society have been approved of according to the annexed schedule.

The Management Committee of the Zoological Gardens took over the operations of the Zoological Society on its demise. See Gillbank (1996).

The Committee having engaged an overseer and a gate-keeper for the remainder of the year the former at the rate of 12/ the latter of 6/ daily pay, as well as three other labourers for the month of August at a daily pay of 9/ and a carter with horse & cart at a daily pay of 18/—, desires me to apply for your authority of expending the sum of £220 two hundred and twenty pounds Sterling for wages.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your most obedient and humblest servant
Ferd Mueller
The honorable the Chief Secretary
