Melbourne bot Garden,
3. July 1858.
My dear Mr Powlett.
The two men employed in digging the holes for the Blue-Gum trees are very anxious
to get a few £ of pay, since they have been employed for some time at the zoological
gardens & did not yet obtain their pay there.

See also M to F. Powlett, 6 July 1858.
I should be anxious to learn, whether it is likely that the fences will be repaired,
in order to plant the foot of the hill on the Yarra side, which I should strongly
recommend.
General M'Arthur is very anxious to obtain a few Blue Gum seeds from you, ours are
all in the ground.
Humbly yours
Ferd. Mueller.
