Melbourne im botanischen Garten

Geehrter Herr.

Vor kurzem hatte ich die Freude die aus dem königl Garten in Kopenhagen uns von Ihnen übersandten Sämereien zu empfangen. Es soll mich sehr erfreuen, in die Reihe Ihrer jährlichen tauschenden Samen-Contribuenten zu treten u. nehme ich daher die erste Gelegenheit wahr Ihnen durch meinen Freund Dr. W. Sonder in Hamburg eine 223 species umfassende Sammlung australischer Samen zuzusenden. Alle sind ganz frisch, manche neu.

Gewiss werden Sie die Güte haben uns aus dem reichen königl. Garten eine Gegengabe zu senden — welche Hr. Dr. Sonder gewiss gern befördern wird. — Lassen Sie mich freundlichst bitten, dass Sie bei der Auswahl perennirenden u. besonders Strauch— u Baum-Arten den Vorzug geben. Es ist ein grosser Triumph für mich hunderte von nützlichen u. schön blühenden Pflanzen in ein Land einzuführen, welches so rasch einer grossen Zukunft entgegen geht. Gewiss stehen Sie mir darin freudig bei, und seien Sie versichert, dass ich für jede Gabe bald ein Reciprocat bieten werde.

Recently I had the pleasure to receive the seeds sent to us by you from the Royal Garden in Copenhagen. I would be very pleased to join the contributors to the annual seed exchange, and thus avail myself of the first opportunity, to send you through my friend Dr W. Sonder in Hamburg a collection of Australian seeds comprising 223 species. All are very fresh, many new.

I am sure you will have the kindness to send us a reciprocal gift from the rich Royal Garden, — Dr Sonder will be happy, I am sure, to forward it. Permit me to ask, that when making the selection you will give preference to species of perennials and particularly of shrubs and trees. It is a great triumph for me to be able to introduce hundreds of useful and beautiful flowering plants into a country that advances so rapidly towards a great future. Surely you will be pleased to assist me in this. Be assured that I will reciprocate promptly for every gift.
