8th April 1858.
Sir
I have the honor to inform you, that previous to the receipt of your communication,
dated Apr. 7th,
nine additional forms have been returned to the Police Department. I regret that
it lay not in my power to redeem my debt earlier, as part of the forms, kindfully
supplied by the office, had so suffered from exposure to the sun, that I was obliged
to restore new ones. The 21 hitherto returned are far superior to those received,
and the remaining nine will also be made from new material. I pray that you will give
me respit with regard to these, until the wood for them has been furnished from the
Gov. Stores, a requisition for it has been furnished this quarter.

I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your most obedient servant
Ferd. Mueller.
The Chief Commissioner of Police.
