At a meeting of the Board of Land and Works on 20 January 1858 M reported that one of the horses in the Melbourne Botanic Gardens had been killed by an accident. It was resolved that no final decision be arrived at until the opinion of the Commissioner of Public Works was obtained (Unit 1, p. 36, VPRS 974, Public Record Office, Victoria).

I have the honor to inform you that the Board of Land and Works having had under their consideration the representations contained in a letter from Mr Wilhelmi dated 25th Ultimo,

C. Wilhelmi wrote to the Commissioner of Public Works on 21 January 1858 in reply to queries of the Board relative to the horse (No. 467, unit 4, VPRS 963, Public Record Office, Victoria).

At a meeting of the Board of Land and Works on 2 February the Board having considered the correspondence about the loss of the horse resolved that M should not be held liable for its value (Unit 1, p. 39, VPRS 974, Public Record Office, Victoria).
