By desire of the Chief Secretary I have the honor to inform you that he will not offer any objection to your proceeding upon your proposed tour of exploration of the sources of the Latrobe River
Mr Haines however regrets that the instructions to the Scientific Board should not have been fully considered and settled before your departure as this must now of necessity be done in your absence and without the advantage of your assistance
