My dear Mr Gregory.

This afternoon your letter has been read to the Committee of the Institute and has finally persuaded them of the impracticability of the route along Capricorn.

Gregory's letter of 25 November 1857 to J. Macadam was read at a meeting of the Exploration Committee on 7 December 1857 (Transactions of the Philosophical Institute of Victoria, vol. 2 (1858), Reports of Committees, pp. xv-xviii).

I sincerely hope that it will fall to your share to explore the country west of the Burdekin and I shall be delighted to report on any plants, which may fall into your hands.
