Dr F. Müller
Botanic Garden Adelaide
March 7 - 1857
Sir
The Botanic Garden Committee are anxious to procure as complete a collection as possible
of Australian plants, with this view, they request that you will take the trouble
to furnish them with, or expend for them to the amount of the inclosed draft £10.10
for seeds and dried specimens of native plants the 10/- being for box and shipping
charges. They have been told that seeds are about to be sent to them from the Botanic
Garden Melbourne they have also ordered seeds of 120 species (5.0.0) from Mr Ferguson
of Camden who wrote to say that a friend of his who paid especial attention to such
matters would supply us with that quantity of good seeds — Such as we may hope you
will favor us with, may purchance be in many respects, duplicate, that will be an
objection that cannot be as I see avoided, yet the Committee and myself are very anxious
for dried specimens generally and especially for those plants and the seeds of them
which were fortunately discovered by you in your last arduous journey,
I trust that you will be enabled to add many of these valuable things to our at present
small collection — The money sent is but a trifle, but if you will please to let me
know if you are capable of supplying to a larger amount, I am sure the committee will
sanction a larger expenditure, and I shall have pleasure in writing again
1
Francis Ferguson.
