I have the honor to ackdge the rect
of your dated "Brisbane July 1855"
intimating the possibility of the "North Australian Expedition"— in which you have
accepted an appointment as Botanist — being longer absent than the period of eighteen
months named in your former letter, and requesting that your leave of absence may,
under such circumstances, be extended to the time of the return of the expedition.
