editorial addition. M went to Sydney at the beginning of July 1855 before the North Australian Exploring
Expedition, visiting Melbourne again briefly in January 1857 before returning to Sydney

My dear Mr Bateman
It is a source of regret to me to be deprived of the pleasure of seeing you on my
humble place,
as I am urged by business to get to town. I have to thank you for the trouble which
you have given you, in order to promote my views, and I am also deeply obliged both
to Mrs Cobham and Mrs M'Crae. I shall write from Sydney and state about my proceedings,
and I assure you, that I never shall forget the kindness of my friends

See M to E. Bateman, June 1855 (first letter).
yours very truly
Ferd Mueller.
Mr Bateman.
