[Dr Mueller has sent me the enclosed two printed items for you,
which I send on to you herewith. The good friend would soon have died recently as
a result of a cold he caught while looking for water plants.
Afterwards he would soon have lost his position, as all Germans were unpopular because
a Hanoverian was at the head of the revolution.
However, he has also survived this misfortune and so I hope that henceforth he will
even fare well. — Mueller incautiously gave the first report on his travels
to a merchant travelling to Europe, but he has not delivered it; I'm sorry that a
copy intended for you was also included.

M contracted a severe chill, which he later described as 'gastrischem Fieber' [gastric
fever], during the latter stages of his recent expedition into the Victorian Alps;
see M to F. Krichauff, 9 March 1855, and M to W. Haines, 10 March 1855.

The Eureka rebellion. The Hanoverian leader was Friedrich Wern; see
Wehner
(2017), pp. 51-5. The threat to M's position had little if anything to do to do with the rebellion but was financial, with major cut-backs proposed in government expenditure, including
its various scientific services.

B55.01.01?
I am probably in debt to you for the two parts of
Linnaea, but I will add to it first before I repay it. Dr Mueller writes me that he would
like to receive the
entire
volume of
Linnaea
from 1853 to 1854. I have parts IV and V of volume X. Would you be so kind as to send
me the rest of them and then let me know the price, which I will send you soon. If it is possible, I would appreciate it if you could have the issues here
by the 20th or 21st of this month, because I am sending off a box for Dr Mueller on
the 22nd.]
