17th March 1854.
His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor being desirous that this Colony should contribute
to the Great Exhibition at Paris
such of her products as it may be thought desirable to send there, has determined
to appoint a Commission to collect and transmit them thither.
2
An exhibition was held in Melbourne in October 1854 in preparation for the Paris Exhibition,
1855.
He has requested me to enquire whether you would consent to act on that Commission,
as it is his wish to avail himself of your experience and local knowledge.
(Signed) John Foster
F. Mueller
