[Von Dr. Müller habe ich Nachricht bis zum August d. J. Er hatte seine Reise absolviert, u sollte ein Theil der Pflanzen einige Tage später hergesandt werden. Das Reisen als Regierungsbotaniker gefällt ihm wohl, im September wollte er eine zweite grössere Reise unternehmen. Nachdem was ich bereits von Melbourne erhalten, und nachdem was Müller jetzt schreibt, ist die Flora der dortigen Gegend merkwürdig übereinstimmend mit der von Van Diemensland. Einen bösen Verlust hat Müller gehabt, mit dem Schiffe Rob. Peel, das vor längerer Zeit beim Cap strandete, ist unter anderem auch ein grosses Packet Manuskript, das Müller während mehrerer Monate nach lebenden Pflanzen zusammengetragen hatte, verloren gegangen.

Wenn Sie durch eine Anzeige oder auf andere Wiese mir zur Erlangung von 1 oder 2 Ex. der Prodromus von Rob. Braun behilflich sein können, werden Sie mich sehr verpflichten, in der Auction von Schwägrichen habe ich das Werk nicht erhalten.

Müller ist ungeduldig, möchte ich ihm doch bald die Abdrucke der Kryptogamen senden können. Er hat mir ein paar grobe Druckfehler in den Diagnosen notiert, die er gerne geändert hätte u die er Sie bittet unter die Corrigenda aufzunehmen: pag. 413. Z. 5 anstatt 1 ½" lies ½", p. 421. Z. 7. anstatt 4-partitus l. 5-partitus, p. 421. Z. 17. anstatt habitu lies halitu, p. 422. Z. 17. anstatt suparatis lies separatis, p. 444 Z. 26. anstatt nec l. nec non.]

and a part of the plants was to be sent here a few days later. He enjoys travelling as a government botanist and he intends to undertake a second, larger journey in September.

in the event, M departed on his second Victorian journey of exploration on 1 November 1853, returning to Melbourne in mid-April 1854.

Acccording to what I have already received from Melbourne, and what Mueller now writes, the flora of the region there is remarkably conformable with that of Van Diemen's Land. Mueller has had a bad loss with the ship Robert Peel, which stranded for some time at the Cape, and amongst other things also a large package of manuscript, which Mueller had put together during several months from living plants, was lost.

Christian Friedrich Schwägrichen (1775–1853), botanist. A later letter (W. Sonder to D. von Schlechtendal, 7 December 1853 (Tkach, Neubauer & Roser (2022), Brief 18) reveals that Sonder was seeking these copies of Brown (1810) for M. Shortly afterwards, he wrote again, thanking Schlechtendal for obtaining the copies for him; see W. Sonder to D. von Schlechtendal, 18 December 1853, in Tkach, Neubauer & Roser (2022), Brief 19.

Mueller is impatient, I would like to be able to send him the reprints of the cryptogams soon. He has noted a few gross printing errors in the diagnoses which he would like to have changed and which he asks you to include in the Corrigenda: p. 413, line 5 instead of 1½" read ½", p. 421, line 7 instead of 4-partitus read 5-partitus, p. 421, line 17 instead of habitu read halitu, p. 422, line 17 instead of suparatis read separatis, p. 444, line 26 instead of nec read nec non.

The errors are in B53.04.01; the corrections were made in Linnaea, vol. 25, p. 722, although that given by Sonder for p. 422, line 17 is omitted. Sonder's letter continues with a list of errors to be corrected in Sonder (1852a); these were also included in the corrigenda on p. 722.
