Lieber Krichauff!

In der Eile möchte ich heute vorfragen, ob Du den Sack Weinschnittlinge durch Schedlich erhalten hast. Wenn es Euch möglich ist, könntet Ihr mich durch Einsetzen einiger in meinen Garten in Macclesfield erfreuen. — Wahrscheinlich werde ich in 3-4 Wochen nach Mount Arden für botanisiren, da ich für einige Herrn Sammlungen von einheimischen Sämereien zu machen habe. In der Vervollständigung derselben könntest Du mir in sofern beistehen, dass Du in einiger Quantität Samen der schönblühenden Leguminos. etc im Scrub von Macclesfield aufsammeltest, wofür ich mich durch eine reichliche Gegengabe revengiren werde. — Vielleicht lässt sich nach meiner Rückkehr (Nov.) ja auch eine gemeinsame Reise nach den Murray arangiren. — Vor meiner Abreise werde ich Dir das Geld zum Einlösen von meiner promisory-note an Addiges senden; es bleibt mir aber kein Ausweg als zugleich mit einer Anweis.

Bitte, lieber Krichauff, auch meine Pächter mir die paar Schill. welche sie mir schulden zu senden u frage sie ob sie den Wagen u das Geschirr mir abkaufen wollen, sonst muss ich ihnen für die Abnutzung etwas berechnen, zumal da ich sah, als ich oben war, dass er auf keine Weise gegen das Wetter geschützt ist. — Euer Brief ist per Überlandspost nach Deutschl. abgegangen. Es wäre mir ferner lieb zu erfahren, ob mein Land in N. Hamb. sehr durch die Aufflutung gelitten hat u ob es nicht möglich ist, es wenn auch nur einstweilen fürs Fenzen zu verpachten. B[...]

Neales sagt mir, dass fast Alles Land in N. H. verkauft sei, weshalb es wohl jemand wird benutzen können, z. B. noch dies Jahr zum Kartoffelbau.

S[...] bitte ich zu sagen, ich wolle ihm die gewünschten Bücher so bald ich könne besorgen. — Addiges wird vermuthlich ausziehen, sobald meine Schuld bezahlt ist u für Miethsleute sorgen, von denen Du wenn Du nach Macclesfield sendest dann immer gütigst das Geld einfordern und mir zusenden könntest sobald es 1 £ beträgt.

Addiges glaube ich wird nicht die Gesamtsumme auf einmal gebrauchen, die [...] Zeit lassen. Im South Australian nächster Woche findest Du einen Aufsatz von mir.

This statement suggests that the MS should be dated to late August or early September, since M appears to have left on his trip to the Flinders Ranges, SA, in late September 1851, and to have been away for about six weeks (see Grandison (1990)). A date of early September is consistent with the suggested identification (see n. 7) of the 'essay' to which M refers below.

Neale tells me that nearly all the land in New Hamburg has been sold, and for that reason someone might be able to use it, for instance still this year for growing potatoes. Please tell S[...], I will get him the desired books as soon as I am able to. — Addiges will move out, I expect, as soon as my debt is paid, and arrange for tenants, from whom you might be so kind and collect the rent, whenever you go to Macclesfield, and send it to me as soon as it mounts up to £1.

The essay has not been found. It may have been the item referred to in M to T. Mitchell, November 1851 (in this edition as 51-11-00) as having appeared in issue No. 1271, which if the regular weekly publication schedule on Tuesdays was followed, would have been dated 9 September 1851.

The relatives of my tenants are looking forward to letters from them.
