Durch diese Wochenpost, hochgeehrter Herr, werden Sie einige Algen wieder als von Miss Hussey gesammelt bekommen, unter welchen einige sind, welche ich nicht erinnere früher gesehen zu haben. Ich sende auch bekannte Algen, damit Sie das Material vollständig haben. Mr Rose hat auch wieder etwas von Twofold Bay in New South Wales geschickt, wohl die östliche Endgrenze mancher Algen der Südküste Australiens, also wichtig für Phyco-Geographie .
Was Sie in Ihrem letzten Brief über die Untersuchung von Algen sagen, trifft auch ganz zu in Bezug auf Vascular-Pflanzen. So muss ich oft ganze genera von Neuem durcharbeiten (z. B.

neulich Haloragis) um eine neue Art richtig zu beurtheilen, oder eine unhaltbare Art auf die ächte species zurück zu führen.
Bedenken Sie, dass conservativ gehalten wir nun etwa 9000 Arten von vascular Pflanzen kennen aus Continental Australien, denn seit dem Erscheinen der Flora Australiensis habe [ich]

1000 gute Arten hinzugefügt. Da gab es denn oft critische Untersuchungen von Neuem an bekannten Arten ebenfalls durchzuführen, mühsam und zeitraubend.
Meine Forschungen beschränken sich ja auch nicht auf Australien, sondern schliessen ja auch Papua und Polynesien ein. Und doch ist dies nur ein kleiner Theil meiner Arbeit, denn in einer jungen Colonie hat eine Anstalt wie meine hauptsächlich für die ruralen Interessen des brod-gewinnenden Theils der Colonisten zu wirken. So arbeite ich nun auch wieder daran, die erforderliche neunte (Englische) Ausgabe der "Select plants" mit den neuesten Erfahrungen zu vervollständigen, damit der Druck bald beginnen kann. Geldliche Vortheile habe ich von dem Werke nicht. Ich trete nach einigen Wochen auch schon ins 70 Jahr, und kann mich nicht frei machen fur

I have added 1000 good species. Since then there have likewise often been critical investigations to carry out on known species, laborious and taking much time.
My researches are also certainly not restricted to Australia, but also include Papua and Polynesia. And yet this is only a small part of my work, since in a young colony an institution such as mine has mainly to work for the rural interests of the breadwinners of the colonists. So now I am working again to complete the required ninth (English) edition of the Select plants

with the most recent practical knowledge, so that the printing can begin soon. I do not have monetary benefits from the work. I will also enter my 70th year in a few weeks and cannot free myself for cryptogramic work, unless on the Filices.
Kindly consider that the procuring of algae (exclusive of Wilson's) always imposes trouble, time and monetary expense on me, so that you undoubtedly will also think on me in future in the publications as sender .
