Dear Baron von Mueller,
I laid your letter of the 3rd. inst.
before Mr Gregory & I ventured to read it at one of the meetings of the local committee
of the Australasian Association,
but unfortunately it was not received by the latter in the same noble & generous
feeling in which was written. Mr B.
I find is a very strange man to deal with; he thinks those who try to help him are
doing so from unfriendly motives & consequently it is difficult to approach him in
any way. Mr Gregory knows this & he thinks it better to let things rest as they are
at present.

I.e. F. M. Bailey, whose position as Government Botanist of Qld was to be abolished;
see M to W. Thiselton-Dyer, 3 November 1893.
I am sorry to say that it is impossible for me to get a reply to my letters written
to the Secretary of the Geographical section of the Association in Adelaide.
I have written him several letters about my lantern slides
but can get no reply whatever, although the matter is very important.
