You will be gratified to learn, dear Dr Dyer, that the difficulty about the continuation
of the Flora Australiensis had been overcome, as Mr Bailey has now receded from the
position, which he had adopted, and left the field to me alone. The hon. the Premier
of Victoria has kindly sanctioned the issue of the volume from the Gov. Printing Office
of Melbourne, and the first batch of msc is now going to the Gov Printer already.
I shall do all I can to speed the work. Should unexpectedly slight difficulties arise
with Lovell Reeve's firm, then the title must be so altered, as to make it an independent
publication of mine the additions being nearly all from or through me. For convenience's
sake I shall adhere to Bentham's sequen[ce]
of Orders and Genera, to his style, his organography, geographic arrangement and
other details of the Flora. I have advised Bailey to elaborate a full Flora of Queensland,
and to mak[e] this spring what would be a healthful and delightful tour by rails and
coaches to the Wes[t] boundary, which would give him a better insight into the task
before him.
