The Giant- , dear Prof. Lange, went last week by the Peninsular and Oriental Steamer, so that it should arrive in London towards the End of May, and can be in Copenhagen about the beginning of June.

I shall be joyful, if I learn, that it safely arrived, and that it gave pleasure to my Danish science-friends. The strong box, in which it was placed, is from the wood of , therefore the species, on which L'Heritier founded the genus. This species requires abundance of water, not stagnant. It occurs on Mountain-rivulets naturally. The plant sent is probably more than 200 year[s] old, and there is no hinderance it living hundreds of years yet in culture, if sufficient water and nutriment be given, and if it is protected against severe frosts.
