Melbourne,

T. R. Wilson Esqr,
Under Secretary
Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of this day,
informing me, that his Excellency the Governor in Council has been pleased, to order
my position as Governm. Botanist to be continued til the end of 1892. In expressing
my sentiments of gratitude for this act of generosity to the Government, I beg to
assure our honorable Chief, that my best endeavours will also in future be given,
to sustain the scientific credit, which in my own professional way I tried to bring
about for the Colony Victoria here and abroad, always combined with permanent utilitarian
effect. Will you kindly convey my special thanks to Mr M'Lean for the generous interest,
taken by him in my own administrative fate and in the welfare of my institution. Allow
me also, to express my high appreciation of the powerful support, which you, Sir,
have given to the continuation of my services and the wide interest even rurally connected
therewith.
