In meiner Präsidenten-Rede, edler Freund, für die Melbourne Versammlung der grossen australian Association for the Advancement of Science, habe ich besonders erwähnt, dass eine illustrirte Monographie der Characeen die nöthigste jetzt im Pflanzenreich wäre! Könnten Sie mit Subsidien von hier eine solche aus dem reichen Schatz Ihrer Erfahrungen liefern. Die ganze botanische Welt wäre dabei interessirt u. die australische ganz besonders. Vielleicht könnten Sie einen Band herstellen, der sich in Form u. Behandlung denen der Eucalypten, Acacien, Myoporinen, Salsolaceen und dem bald zu beginnenden über Candolleaceen anschloss, so dass jede Platte nur eine Art enthalte. Was müssten die Hilfsmittel geldlich für den Zweck sein? um dies auszuführen Ihnen wäre die Durchführung leicht, so dass solch ein Band bald erscheinen könnte.

so that each plate contained only one species. What would the pecuniary assistance have to be for the purpose in order to carry this out? The implementation would be easy for you , so that such a volume could come out soon .

Nordstedt took up M's proposal, the work being published as Nordstedt (1891), but no further decades were published.
