5/4/89
Last evening came the following telegram,
1
W. MacGregor to M, 29 March 1889 (in this edition as 89-03-29a).
dear Mr McDonald, to which I replied, that the £500— belonged to the geographic Society, and that I had no funds for a collector in my Department.
2
M to W. MacGregor, 12 April 1889 (in this edition as 89-04-12a); and, a non-official letter, M to W. MacGregor, 12 April 1889 (in this edition as 89-04-12b).
This telegram is disappointing, and I telegraphed therefore also to Dr MacGregor, to merely ask the Rev Mr Chalmers, whether he could ascend this season the Owen Stanley's Ranges for us. If you approve of it, I will communicate also at once with Mr Chalmers. The Governor of Brit N. G. is likely harrassed with other duties. It is now clear, that Mr Chalmers ought to be our emissary, if he can undertake that duty; his feelings would be with us.
Regardfully
your
Ferd. von Mueller.
