Melbourne,
1 Aug. 1888.
T. R. Wilson Esqr,

Sir.
I have the honor to report, that last evening I met with an accident by falling from a tramcart; but altho' this will prevent me from leaving my dwelling for some days, it will not hinder me in performing my office-duties.

Wilson submitted M's letter to the Chief Secretary, A. Deakin, on 3 August and Deakin signed it on 6 August. That day Wilson minuted a draft reply: ' I much regret to hear of the occurrence and trust he will soon be able to resume active duties'. A letter was sent to M on 6 August but it has not been found.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obed. servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Gov. Botanist.
