Melbourne,
3 May 1887.
To the President of the Brescia-Atheneum.
It was with most pleasing surprise, honored Sir, that I received your communication of the 6 March,
1
F. Bettoni Cazzago to M, 6 March 1887 (in this edition as 87-03-06a).
from which I learn, that the Brescia-Atheneum, over which you so worthily preside, has shown me the great honor of electing me a member. I appreciate this mark of generous consideration all the more highly, as I had so little claim on the kindness of yourself and your distinguished Colleagues; and it is particularly elevating to me, that I was deemed worthy to belong to an union of such high and noble tendencies as yours It needs not my assurance, that I shall feel particular pleasure in promoting the objects of your Atheneum in any manner from here, so far as I can; and if you, Mr President, or any member will acquaint me, how I can serve special studies of theirs, I will do all I can, to aid their and your researches.
With deep obedience your
Ferd. von Mueller.
