Mr Ranford handed me your letter of the 25 Jan
in which you suggested that this Govt should combine with that of South Aust to explore
the country in the vicinity of Lake Amadeus I have laid the proposal, with recommendation
of favorable consideration, before His Excellency the Governor who considered the
matter in council the result was that

with a cover note: 'Enclosed I beg to hand you a letter received today from Baron
Ferd. Von Mueller in which he has requested me to bring before the notice of the Government
of Western Australia a suggestion he has made with reference to Mr Ernest Giles exploring
the country lying north west of Lake Amadeus. In furtherance of the Baron's wishes
I request you will be good enough to submit the enclosed letter to His Excellency
the Governor so that a definite reply may be returned.' (Acc 541, AN 3, 271/1887,
