The Geographical Society of Australasia was granted the prefix 'Royal' in a letter dated 15 October 1886.
It was very good of you, to take action on this happy event in your usual resolute way. I will be happy, to attend at the meeting on Monday at you[r] hospitable house. You will likely have received the papers from the townclerk of Collingwood, which may augment our iss[ue] of antarctic Documen[ts] through the R.S.

The progress report of the Royal Society of Victoria's Antarctic Committee, B87.14.03, had as appendices numerous documents, including (pp. 304-5) a letter dated 6 October 1886 from Captain D. Gray, Peterhead, Scotland, to W. R. Buchan, Council Chambers, Collingwood, on the prospects of establishing a viable whaling industry in Antarctic waters.
Regardfully you[r]
Ferd von Mueller
