It is with much delight, honored and venerable Sir, that I receive your consent, to
become the elaborator of the Myoporinae for the monogr. phanerogamarum.
It is a proud thought to me, to be admitted thus among the illustrious phytographers,
who have contributed to the for ever unique series of volumes of your immortal parent,
continued by yourself and your talented son.
1
A. de Candolle & C. de Candolle (1878-96). M's proposed monograph did not eventuate.
2
A. P. de Candolle (1823-73).
As a matter of course, I will be happy to pay the usual remuneration to whom so ever
you may choose, to see the Myoporinae through the press.
During the next few months I shall likely obtain additional material also of Myoporinae
from Central Australia, the season being so favorable for rain this year, after
three
seasons of drought, (almost or quite ruinous to numerous squatters) who had settled
in the driest parts of the interior.) But I do
not hope
, that any more
new species
will be found, though something may yet be learnt of the geographic range of some
of them.
It is marvelous, that you are still able to carry on your so vigorously researches,
as manifested by most valuable publications, one again recently received through your
generosity. I trust that divine providence will spare you yet many years for the continuation
of the great Candollean labours.
Regardfully ever
your
Ferd. von Mueller.
