Qualifications
4
On the form, 'Qualifications' is printed vertically to the left of the space left
for the details. Ulrich's candidature information was included unchanged in the List of Candidates
for 1889 (annotated in pencil as a candidate for a third time) with von Haast shown
as having died and E. Hull having being moved to the general knowledge list. The 1892
list (annotated in pencil as a candidate for the fourth time), also with an unchanged
citation, showed the additional support of Warington W Smyth from personal knowledge,
although both he and Bristow had died before the list was printed. Home (2003), p. 80 indicates that Ulrich
continued to be nominated until 1900, but the set of lists produced in November 2019
was incomplete or damaged, and these other nominations could not be checked for changes
in the citation or additional supporters. Ulrich was not elected.

Amongst his publications in New Zealand his "Report on the Goldfields of Otago'' is published with Prof. Hutton's "Geology of Otago," and is a valuable contribution both from a theoretical and practical point of view. "Observations on 'Nuggetty Reef' Victoria" (Quart. Journ. Geol. Soc., 1869); "Observations on some Tin Discoveries in New England, New South Wales" (Quart. Journ. Geol. Soc., 1873), &c.
