The enclosed Lycopodium, dear Sir Joseph, was sent to me as distinct from L. Phlegmaria by Mr Bailey. It seems to me very doubtful whether it can be regarded as anything more than an extremely robust form of that species. But as I am still working away from my office at Dr Büttner’s mansion,

In J.G. Baker's hand: This precisely agrees with a typical specimen of the Lycopodium phlegmaroides of Gaudichaud, figured Freycin. Voyage t. 23 [Freycinet & Gaudichaud (1826-30), text p. 281, Atlas, t. 23] but it is scarcely I think worth separating specifically from Phlegmaria. We have several specimens just like to from Fiji; Gaudichaud's type is from Rawak. J. G. Baker Kew herb. Oct 15 1884.
