Melbourne,
8. April 1884.
The honorable Graham Berry, M.L.A.,
Chief Secretary.
Sir.
I have the honor to solicit, that you will kindly allow me, to do my Office-work for a few weeks at the residence of Dr Alex. Buettner, who built a large house at the higher part of Victoria Parade

in a very healthy position, and who as my principal medical adviser is anxious, that I should for some time be under his frequent and immediate care, my distressing cough having not abated. Dr Buettner offers me a large room for my sole use; the daily correspondence would be forwarded on to me, and I could do the ordinary Office work (like in Gipps land and also at the sea side) at the Doctors place, where my Assistant, when necessary, could personally call on me for instructions.

Berry approved M's request on 16 April and the decision was immediately forwarded to M who returned the file 'with best thanks'.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller
