To the honorable Graham Berry, M.L.A.,
Chief Secretary.
Sir
I have the honor to submit a letter from the Editor of "the Indian Forester" Dehra
Dun,
and also a letter from the Librarian of the University-Library of Heidelberg,
which letters have been recently received and from which it will be seen, that the
Editor of the Forester desires the nine decades (I-IX) of the Eucalyptography
in exchange for his important periodical, while the University Librarian of Heidelberg
desires to complete the series of the Fragmenta phytographiae Australia, of which
work he received from the trustees of the Melb. public Library vol. VI, VII, VIII,
IX, X. — I believe that of the last mentioned work only vol. I II III and XI can be
supplied, as the edition was but a small one, and repeatedly supplied from the Ministerial
Office to all Members of Parliament and to free Libraries, so that the supply of volumes
published many years ago became exhausted at the Gov. Printing Office. In recommending,
that these supplies be granted, I beg to add, that the Royal Society of New South
Wales needs also yet vol. I of the fragmenta in interchange for the Societys publications.

The Premier, J. Service, approved M's proposal on 19 February. The Government Printer
was notified and in due course supplied the works involved. On 24 April, T. Wilson
notified M: 'The Government Botanist will observe that the Hon the Premier approves
of the desired exchange, and the publications mentioned are therefore forwarded herewith
for transmission accordingly'. On 29 April, M replied: 'Returned with best thanks;
transmission now effected'.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller
