I thank you, dear Professor, for the pain, you have taken, in writing out supplemental
notes for the census,
which notes I shall utilize & publicly acknowledge as from you. Pray do not trouble
about the geol. sketch-map of S.A. just now, as there is no hurry about it.

I will send the R.S. Paper for Candidature to one of your trusty friends in England,
after the Australian signatures have been obtained.
It is very kind of you to invite me for a joint excursion,
but
this
season I shall not have left any time for a tour. Not only ought I to attend to
your
N. plants
and sundry other collections, which were laid aside, while I pushed the species-census;
but I have also
soon
to redeem my promise to Professor Luerssen of Leipzig, to elaborate Mrs Dietrich's
extensive collections of E. Austr. plants. Indeed the specimens came already at the
Exhibition-time,
and I have as yet done little to them.

The destination of Tate's 'Christmas trip' is not clear, but there are specimens he
collected dated in the second half of January 1883 from Kangaroo Island, SA, in both
AD and MEL.
