MS found with a specimen of Macrozamia douglasii (MEL 237356), marked by M: 'Encephalartos Douglasii F.v.M. Macroz. Douglasii Ex horto bot. Brisbane. 1881.' Elsewhere, M wrote (B83.03.01) of 'the sub-generic group of Macrozamia, which only on geographic considerations can be kept apart from the older South African genus Encephalartos'.

Dear Sir,
I have this day forwarded per A.S.N. Co's
2
Australian Steam Navigation Company.
boat, a box containing:—
a leaf & part of fruit-cone of Encephalartos tridentatus.
Leaf & fruit-cone of Macrozamia Miquelii
Leaf & cone of Stangeria paradoxa;
Leaf & flower-spike of Areca Alicae;
Fruit of Tecoma Hillii.
Male cones of Bunya-bunya
a few seeds of Cocos plumosa
I likewise send a leaf (Labelled No 1) of a Macrozamia, stems of which I obtained from Fraser's Island. It is of most graceful habit. There is no spiral twist in the leaf, & the leaflets are much longer & more conspicuously marked with white than M. Miquelii.

Miquelii crossed out by M and spiralis substituted for it.
I have not seen the fruit.
Some of the specimens I now send you may be of little or no interest to you but they served to fill up the box.
Re the Encephalartos tridentatus — the plant from which the cone was cut, was received from Kew two years ago, it is stemless, & I have never seen the male cone.
Thanking you for the packet of seed & printed matter
I am, Sir,
Yours faithfully
