It is my pleasing duty, honored Sir, to acknowledge the receipt of the 3. vol. of
the monograph. phanerogam.
This portion of the new Series, issued by you & your able Son,
will maintain the celebrity of a name, which your parent has rendered already so
illustrious.

Casimir de Candolle.
May you long continue in strength and health, to supervise the edition of the future
volumes. Perhaps it may fall yet to my share to elaborate the
Myoporinae
for these monographies, especially as the
additions
to this order have been so numerous, since Mr Bentham and myself published the 5th
vol of the Flora Australiensis; as you must have observed from the more recent volumes
of the fragmenta. It is however
not
likely, that many more new Myoporinae will be found, as the interior of Australia
has now so much been traversed by collectors. It would not be necessary for me to
see European Herbaria for a monography of Myoporinae, as the Order hardly exists outside
of Australia, and I may add, that in my collection alone is a full series of the varieties
of each species, and that of many of the rare new species no samples exist in Europe.

M eventually produced, independently, a volume illustrating the myoporinous plants
of Australia; see B86.08.05. He did not, however, contribute a monograph on them to
the Candolles' series.
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
I hope soon to be able to send the 8th & 9th Decade of the Eucalyptography.
