10/1/80.
You have placed me under obligation, honored and venerable Sir, by sending me some fragments of Euc. obtusiflora & E. pallens D.C.
1
See M to A. de Candolle, 3 September 1879.
The first is not Benthams plant of that name. Could it be from isle De cres?
2
i.e. Ile Decrès = Kangaroo Island, SA. See Horner (1987).
(Kangaroo-Island). The leaf seems that of E. incrassata. I find that E. pallens is also not identical with E. dealbata, but I am unable to make out what it is from the only leaf and drawing. It would require to see anthers & ripe fruit, to come to safe conclusions about these two species. I was however able to restore E. punctata, a well marked species, and an excellent timbertree.
As yet E. ambigua DC remains obscure. Can it be a form of E. amygdalina?
Let me offer my best felicitation to you & your illustrious son at the new decennium, through which you will carry the name of your parent with all its glory!

Alphonse de Candolle's son, Casimir, and father, A. P. de Candolle.
