26/10/76
I feel under deep obligation, dear Mr Fraser, for the generous efforts, which his Excellency has made on my behalf, and which after nearly 30 years toil in Australia may at last brighten up my future.

The Governor of WA, W. Robinson, had forwarded to the British authorities M's request that he be granted land at Sturt's Creek, WA, where he had explored with A. C. Gregory in 1856. The Colonial Office declined to make the grant; see M to M. Fraser, 7 August 1876, and notes thereto.
Pray convey to his Excellency my grateful acknowledgement of his goodness.
Regardfully
Ferd. von Mueller.
