Auf einer Reise in die Gebirge West von Cap Otway, theuerer Freund, fand ich heute zum ersten mal in Australien eine . Die Arten dieser Gattungen unterscheiden sich äusserlich von denen des genus (Entenfloss) in der Abwesenheit von Wurzeln; es sind dann noch manche Charactere der innern Anatomie, welche diese genera scheiden. Indem ich einige Exemplare dieser Ihnen vorlege, möchte ich Sie bitten gelegentlich auf ceen in den Sümpfen u Teichen Ihrer Nachbarschaft zu achten, denn ich kann mir gar nicht denken dass diese Ordnung, wie man nach Dr Hooker's Manual annehmen müsste, auf bloss 2 Arten dort beschränkt sei.

dear friend, I found a today for the first time in Australia. The species of these genera differ externally from those of the genus (duck weed) in the absence of roots; in addition there are a number of internal anatomical characters that divide these genera. I am enclosing a few specimens of this for you, and would like to ask you on occasion to watch for ceae in the swamps and ponds of your neighbourhood, as I cannot imagine that this family should be restricted to only 2 species, as we are led to believe by Dr Hooker's Manual.
