Mit dem Dampf Schiffe Sommersetshire, edler Freund, habe ich Ihnen eine neue Menge von Algen zugesandt u. zwar solche welche in diesem Jahre von Mr Travers an der Chatham Insel gefunden wurden. Das Packet ist an Dr Hooker abgeschickt, der es Ihnen gewiss mit seiner gewöhnlichen Bereitwilligkeit zusenden wird. Wollen Sie so freundlich sein, mir eine volle Series der Arten benannt zurück zu senden.

Ihren ausgezeichneten Landsmann, Dr Christophersen, habe ich häufig zu besuchen die Ehre gehabt. Ich bedauere dass er uns nun bald verlassen wird.

I have sent you, noble friend, a new lot of algae by the steamer Sommersetshire,

Somersetshire cleared out of Melbourne on 23 August 1872 (Argus, 24 August 1872, p. 4).

being those that were collected this year by Mr Travers in the Chatham Islands.

The packet has been sent to Dr Hooker who, I am sure, will forward it to you with his usual willingness. Would you be so kind and send back to me a full named set of the species.

I have had the honour frequently to visit your excellent compatriot Dr Christophersen.

Wilhelm Christopher Christophersen visited SA in September-October 1872 (see, for example, South Australian register, 24 September 1872, p. 5) and left from Melbourne in July 1873 (Age, 18 July 1873, p. 2).

I regret that he is to leave us soon.
