bot. Garden,
29/3/71
Would you favor me, dear Sir Redmond, by letting me know, whether the Industrial Commission will publish my index of prominently useful trees as an appendix to my lecture,

M delivered his lecture on 'The application of phytology to the industrial purposes of life' for the Industrial Museum in October 1870; for the published version, see B71.04.03.
as intended by me originally. If this index is not deemed worthy of publication, I should be glad, for its being returned to me.

On 31 March Barry asked: 'Will the Chairman be so good as to inform me wh[ether] he can relent [in] this case or whether he persis[…] in […]'. He added: 'Is there any objection to the Printing if the Library can pay the £8[:?]' (Barry's minute is partly obscured by the binding.) The chairman of the Industrial Commission, S. Bindon, replied: 'The index should form part of our Phytological Catalogue, and I am sure the Committee will be only too glad to print it it [= and?] any further information coming from Dr Mueller. Personally I think lectures should be treated as lectures and not as essays and I cannot break faith with the other lecturers. I will be glad to confer with the President.'
