Would you favor me, dear Sir Redmond, by letting me know, whether the Industrial Commission
will publish my index of prominently useful trees as an appendix to my lecture,
as intended by me originally. If this index is not deemed worthy of publication,
I should be glad, for its being returned to me.

M delivered his lecture on 'The application of phytology to the industrial purposes
of life' for the Industrial Museum in October 1870; for the published version, see
B71.04.03.

On 31 March Barry asked: 'Will the Chairman be so good as to inform me wh[ether] he
can relent [in] this case or whether he persis[…] in […]'. He added: 'Is
there any objection to
the Printing if the Library can pay the £8[:?]' (Barry's minute is partly obscured
by the binding.) The chairman of the Industrial Commission, S. Bindon, replied: 'The
index should form part of our Phytological Catalogue, and I am sure the Committee
will be only too glad to print it it [= and?] any further information coming from
Dr Mueller. Personally I think lectures should be treated as lectures and not as essays
and
I
cannot break faith with the other lecturers. I will be glad to confer with the President.'
