Letter not found. The text given here is a translation from the Tanunda Deutsche Zeitung published in
the
South Australian advertiser
(Adelaide), 18 October 1869, p. 2. It is introduced by 'The approaching departure
of the Rev. Dr. Meucke from this colony is deeply regretted by his numerous friends,
and particularly by the members of his congregation … How high Dr F Von Mueller estimates
the scientific efforts of our departing friend will be clearly seen by the following
remark, to communicate which we have asked and received the permission of the writer'
(letter not found). He says, in a letter addressed to the Rev. Dr. Muecke, dated 24th August, amongst others:—'
