Ich schulde Ihnen, theuerer Freund, eine Antwort auf Ihren letzten gütigen Brief. Ihren Herrn Schwiegervater habe ich neulich in seiner Office kurz besucht, u er scheint wohlgemuth u zufrieden zu sein. Ein Bronchiencatarrh fesselt mich seit 9 od

10 Wochen während der kühlen Abendstunden ans Haus, u so habe ich seit all der Zeit des Abends ihn in seiner Behausung nicht aufsuchen können, u in dieser Pflanzjahreszeit ist gar nicht an Tags-Ausgehen zu denken. Dies thut mir recht leid, denn ich hätte gern die Seinen kennen gelernt, schon um Ihretwegen.
Es ist mir in hohem Grade angenehm, dass ich die Hoffnung hegen darf Sie hier als Besucher im Laufe dieses Jahres zu sehen
Zum Eintausch von Naturalien wäre ist

Mit dieser Post sende ich Ihnen ein Exemplar meines kleinen Werkes über die Chatham Pflanzen. Es scheint mir dies die passendste Gabe aus meiner Hand für die gütig versprochenen Glacier Ansichten.

Von Hochstetter höre ich wenig. Vielleicht ist es meine Schuld. Ich finde keine Musse für viel aussergeschäftliche Correspondenz.

briefly in his office and he seems to be happy and contented. A bronchial catarrh kept me indoors during the cool hours of the evening for the past 9 or 10 weeks, and during all this time I was unable to visit him in his home in the evenings, and during this season of planting I can't even think of outings during the day. I greatly regret this, for I would have liked to have met his family, even if only because of you.
I am so very pleased that I may entertain the hope of seeing you here as a visitor during the course of this year.
I would always be very willing to engage in an exchange of natural history objects. Do you have our fishes?
With this mail I am sending you a copy of my little work on the Chatham plants.
